I’ve been searching for the ‘perfect’ foundation since I began wearing makeup. I don’t even want to think about the amount of different foundations I’ve gone through over the years. The problem is, none of them ever seemed to work for me. Most of them would give me the coverage I needed, but they all seemed to make my face look quite dry come the end of the day.

When Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty, I jumped at the chance to try out the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation. The overwhelming amount of praise and positive reviews it received, especially amongst the black community, was enough to tempt me to buy it. I know I’m a bit late with my review, but I wanted to make sure I really have found the perfect foundation before I raved about it on here.

I’ve been wearing this foundation for about six months now and I STILL haven’t gotten bored of it. Usually, when I try out a new foundation, I love it at first but after a while I begin to see its faults and inevitably end up searching for a new one. This is definitely not the case for the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation. It is honestly, without a doubt, the BEST foundation I’ve EVER used.

A common struggle for women of colour is not being able to find a foundation in their shade. A lot of foundations are too light, have the wrong undertones or simply don’t have a good shade range. With 40 shades to choose from, Fenty Beauty is a life saver for those who struggle when it comes to colour matching.

Personally, I don’t like ordering makeup online. I prefer to see and test the physical product for myself before I commit to purchasing it, especially if it leans more towards the slightly more expensive side. When I visited the Fenty Beauty counter at Harvey Nichols, they took one look at my complexion and picked out the perfect shade for me (I wear 360) straight away; there was no hassle at all. If you’re unable to visit Harvey Nichols, you can use the colour matcher on the Fenty Beauty website; I’ve heard a lot of positive reviews about it.

Unlike most foundations, the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation stays perfect throughout the day. I can apply it when I first wake up in the morning and it’ll look just as good when I get home 12 hours later. Rihanna truly has created a masterpiece with this one.

The foundation is build-able, which makes it perfect for all seasons. You can easily achieve the amount of coverage you need without worrying about it looking cakey. One of the things I love the most about this foundation is how lightweight it feels; you almost forget you’re wearing anything on your face at all.

I S   I T   W O R T H   T H E   S P E N D ?

The foundation claims to “give skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage. The oil-free formula is made with climate-adaptive technology that’s resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores so that wherever you are, it’s going to work on your skin. Best of all, this longwearing, light-as-air texture is undetectable on skin so you always look like you.”

After wearing this foundation for such a long time, I can honestly say that this statement is a pretty good representation of how the foundation performs (from my personal experience). The only thing I would say is that it’s not totally shine-free. However, this can be easily fixed by applying a small amount of powder over the top of your finished look.

Like I mentioned previously, I’ve been using this foundation for six months now and guess what… I still haven’t run out! Since I’ve been using it for so long I am expecting to run out soon so I’m planning on purchasing another one within the next couple of weeks.

The foundation retails for £26 and considering how good it is and how long it’s lasted me, I think this is a bargain!

Obviously everyones skin is different so the foundation will perform differently based on your skin type. If you don’t like a matte finish then this isn’t going to be the foundation for you. For me, however, this foundation is perfect and I don’t plan on changing anytime soon.

I was very skeptical at first, hence why it took me so long to buy it, but it’s the best decision I’ve made! The foundation is amazing. I’d definitely recommend it x

Great review and it’s so good that you’ve finally found a foundation that you love! Like you, I’ve always struggled. My fave one ever got discontinued a couple of years ago and I’ve been buying old stock on Ebay ever since! I find it difficult to find the right shade as I’m VERY pale. I’ve heard great things about the Fenty Beauty foundations though, given there are so many shades. Think I definitely need to take the plunge and try it now!

Oh no I’d actually be heart broken if that happened to me! I’m sure you’d be able to find your colour with Fenty, definitely look into it! 🙂

I’ve heard so many good things about this foundation but have not had the chance to go and try it out! I really need to get colour matched as finding a colour for my skin tone can be difficult, love this review will be checking out this foundation! X

The best thing to do is go in store if you’re local and they can do it for you! I’m always skeptical about online colour matchers tbh. Good luck!

After reading your review of this foundation I want to pick it up myself now. My skin can sometimes be quite oily so this foundation sounds like it would be amazing for my skin type and for £26 I agree its a bargain. Might need to pop to London soon then. Lovely blog post x

I’m glad you enjoyed it! Honestly, I think it’s so worth it. I’ve never been able to find a foundation anything like it

I also brought this foundation about 6 months ago and have been using it ever since. You don’t need to use a lot, it seems to be long lasting and I have not yet got bored of it. Like yourself I love foundations at first and then find them to be not as good after a few weeks but I have not yet thought this.

It’s crazy how long it lasts! I’m surprised it’s not more expensive just because of that. I’m glad I’m not the only one haha

I mean…40 shades is incredible! I’ve seen a few mixed reviews on this foundation but despite the negative ones I do really want to try it for myself because like you I’ve been searching for the perfect foundation since I started wearing makeup!

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

It really is! You definitely should, I’ve not seen many negative reviews but I’m sure this foundation isn’t for everyone. It just depends on your skin I suppose

  8. August 24, 2018 / 8:34 pm

Hey, this sounds like a perfect foundation. And honestly the price is kind of similar like most of your known high end foundations. Thanks for sharing your review. Laura / https://laustworld.blogspot.com/

Yeah that’s true, it’s just a bit of a step up for those who mainly go for high street brands

Six months and still going! That’s amazing!! Everytime I go to Sephora to pick up a bottle though there out of the testers for the shades I think will suit me best and cause there’s so many I don’t want to get the wrong one. Maybe next time I’ll be lucky

Usually, when I try out a new foundation, I love it at first but after a while I begin to see its faults and inevitably end up searching for a new one. <– LOL this is so me. And the "while" can be very short. There are a lot of foundations just laying in my drawers waiting for their expiry date.
Question: what skin type would you say the Fenty foundation caters to?

    Thanks for the review, Tish!
    PS: you look stunning

Me too! Why is it so hard to find a good foundation haha
Honestly, I’m not really the best person to answer that as I’m not really a beauty blogger, I just do the odd post every now and then. I think I have normal/slightly dry skin and it’s perfect for me

  12. August 27, 2018 / 4:13 pm

I’ve been meaning to try this for a while but had no idea about their colour matcher on their site! Now I have no excuses…

  13. August 27, 2018 / 4:53 pm

This was really interesting for me. Reviewing this foundation was the first blog post I ever published! Andddd it wasn’t a good one. This product really doesn’t work for me. It’s so drying that I’ve never been able to wear it alone for longer than 2 hours. I have the lightest shade which is a perfect match for me so I was disappointed when it didn’t work out. I still mix it with more dewy foundations every now and then though. I’m glad it works for you. Really interesting to read a review of someone who has the opposite opinion x

  14. August 30, 2018 / 7:07 pm

Fenty buts other brands to shame with its amazing shade range for all! You say you have dryer skin, do you find it doesn’t cling to dry patches?? I’ve been thinking about trying this foundation out but that’s always the problem I find especially with matte foundations 🙂

Not at all, the foundation is perfect for my skin! It’s only really my nose that is dry but I make sure to use a primer underneath. I’m sure if I didn’t do that then it would be a lot more drying. Definitely try it! I’m so glad I did in the end x

  15. August 30, 2018 / 7:34 pm

Funnily enough, I’m on the hunt for a new foundation and this seems to fit perfectly with what I need! Will have to go on a little dig and see if I can find it where I live! Great review!!

Ahhh I’ve wanted to try this foundation since it came out and still haven’t! This is definitely on my list for the next foundation I purchase!

This foundation sounds amazing! I’ve been planning on buying it for the longest time but haven’t got round to do it! When I went to their pop up shop in London, they matched my foundation so now I know which one to get when I do buy it. From your review, it definitely sounds worth the spend!! I should buy it ASAP haha!!
